Foresters Host Grand Officers Grand Officers Visit

Foresters of America welcomed distinguished lodge members to a February 22 monthly meeting and barbecue at Foresters Hall. Guests included Grand Court of California officers and multiple courts from Santa Barbara San Pedro Oakland and Redwood City. A dinner meeting in Santa Barbara is scheduled for March 1 at the Top Hat.

Pension Plan Study Moves Forward for City Employees

City officials tentatively approve studying a group life insurance plan and a retirement program “if the city can afford it.” Insurance carriers will be invited to submit proposals. Lompoc Valley received .39 inch of rain over the weekend, raising the season total to 13.59 inches. The city’s weatherman Tony Stanich reported an average weekly high of 58 degrees and a low of 37, with Saturday’s low dipping to 31 as the cold spell set in.

Plan for Large Fully Equipped Gymnasium Approved

Ray Ostini Elected President of Lompoc Riding Club

Ray Ostini was elected president of the Lompoc Riding Club at its annual election Tuesday night. Dr. William Smart became vice-president, L. E. Valentine secretary-treasurer, and Jimmy Domingos and Robert Newcomb joined the board. The group plans a Fourth of July Gymkhana and roping meetings on the first and third Sundays at the Rocco Grounds. The Junior Riding Club will hold a cake sale at Safeway on Saturday.

Schools abandon bid for Lompoc Terrace site

Lompoc schools gave up efforts to acquire the 14 acre Lompoc Terrace property after the Department of Education turned the site over to the General Services Administration for disposal. Negotiations had lasted over a year and ended when the districts declined to guarantee a new school within 18 months.

Coast Guard urged to retain Arguello station

At a Santa Barbara hearing representatives from Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and boating groups urged the Coast Guard to keep the Pt Arguello lifeboat station. Officials said a decision would come in about two months. Testimony stressed its role in safety for boating, fishing, and shipping along the Graveyard of the Pacific.
