Ed board approves 14 million budget for 1974 75

The school board with two absentees approved a tentative 1974 75 budget totaling 14 857 million with a 3 77 per 100 tax rate and set August 6 for final approval. Trustees Braun Steiger and Nagle voted yes while Beattie and Jacoby were absent.

Rains Aligns With New Politics in Senate Race

Senate hopeful Omer Rains, a 32 year old Democrat, claims the political shift away from the old school, opposing Republican Don MacGillivray in the July 2 special election and the November full term. Rains cites AFL-CIO voting records to attack MacGillivray as anti labor and anti consumer, noting Prop 5 support and a pattern of corporate funding. Local events note festival activities, city meetings, a grant to a regional center, a chicken barbecue, and a burglary arrest in Lompoc.

Brush fire in Mission Hills blamed on man set

Officials report a brush fire that blackened a quarter acre in Mission Hills was arson. No suspects. 11th fire in a month caused no structure damage but injured two firefighters last Friday near Queen of Angels Church on Rucker Road. A Lompoc man faces a preliminary hearing for assaulting a police officer with intent to murder. A 18 year old pedestrian sustained knee injuries after a car incident on Pine Avenue and H Street. The Community Action Commission promotes a summer youth program for ages 18 to 22.
