California budget negotiators approve record $9.22 billion plan

The budget panel backs the largest state spending plan, about 9.22 billion dollars, up from 7.7. It includes 82 million for a new legislative building and 36.9 million for park land acquisitions. Senate resistance centers on 215 million from federal revenue sharing linked to Reagan tax rebates.

Dean claims Nixon likely knew of Watergate plan and helped cover up

County jail operation costs discussed by Lompoc officials

Lompoc would pay more than 98000 annually to run its jail under county operation, versus an 18000 subsidy now. the board favored renewing the existing contract for 1973-74. Sheriff and mayor presented costed alternatives including full sheriff control and a jail substation plan.

Detox center contract delayed by Board of Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors delayed execution of a contract to open a county detoxification center near Lompoc at the old Demedy Ranch on Sweeney Rd. The facility, first of three in the county, will cost $45,625 for the new fiscal year starting July 1 with Violet M. Willis named as private owner. Other centers are planned for Santa Maria and Santa Barbara under the Mental Health Services department.

Lompoc Furniture Mart Plans Downtown Remodel

Lompoc Furniture Mart co owners George Gransie and John Bradley announced a facelift at 125 South H Street to fit an early California theme as part of the Downtown Revitalization effort. They will meet with architect Richard Taylor to discuss ideas aligning with Cal Poly plans. Howard Moore of Moore's Department Store had earlier announced remodeling of his shopping complex.

Congress demands Cambodia bombing halt in new vote

Congress and the Senate urged an end to bombing in Cambodia. The House tied 204 to 204 on a fund cutoff within a 3.3 billion supplemental bill, sending it back to the Senate for final approval before reaching Nixon. The White House will decide on a veto after consultation with GOP leaders.
