Centennial Picnic Plans Mark Lompoc Fourth of July

An old-fashioned family picnic is set for July 4 at Ryan Park to celebrate Lompoc’s Centennial. Activities include egg toss sac races watermelon-eating and a catch the greased pig contest for all ages plus an adults speech contest with topics at least 25 years old. A biggest lie contest and a skydiving demonstration headline the afternoon, followed by Flarelight skydiving at Huyck Stadium and a fireworks show costing 3000 dollars, nearly double last year.

Small dog sought after biting incident near South H Street

Animal control appeals for a small black and white mixed breed dog about 5 inches high that bit 10 year old Raelene Redman on the right hand near 426 South H St while she reached to pet the stray. Health officials must locate the dog in days to check rabies inoculations. If not found, the girl may receive Pasteur treatment.

Plan holds up park funding in Santa Barbara County

A total of 1 553 900 dollars was requested for county parks for 1974 75 but no funds were approved for any district next year. The county master plan due January will guide long term improvements while Ocean Park and Miguelito Park receive no funding.

Collision in Ocean Avenue and L Street injures two youths

Police reports say Angelo Arrevalos Jr. 16 of 328 N Sixth St suffered minor injuries in a Saturday night car collision with a vehicle driven by Michael Lynn Spence 18 of 1320 W Loquat Ave at Ocean Ave and L St. Frank Gondolfo 16 sustained a head cut in Solvang after a separate crash on Mission Drive.

Lompoc trustees to review tentative 1974 75 budget

The Lompoc Unified School District board meets at 3 30 p m in the Central Administration Building to review a nearly 15 million dollar budget with a 3 77 tax rate before final adoption in August.

Camping charge to be resumed on Los Padres NF

Congress will reinstate camping fees in National Forest recreation areas with about 5 million dollars expected to fund campground rehabilitation and construction. In Los Padres National Forest 24 of roughly 300 sites will collect $2 per night for standard sites and $1 for lesser facilities. Golden Age Passports for those over 62 are only available at the Goleta Office.

Golden Gate Vandenberg Center awards 31 master's degrees

Thirty one students receive masters degrees at Golden Gate University's Vandenberg Center with Dr Otto Butz delivering the commencement address. Civilians and Vandenberg officers share MBA and MPA awards while several graduates post 4.0 GPAs. Many students started at the community college and finished locally in under three years.
