FBI and police probed an overheard plan to abduct two Charlie’s Angels stars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson and Lindsay Wagner of The Bionic Woman. An unidentified foreign woman overheard three British accented men at Gilhooley’s in Eagle Rock May 28 discussing kidnapping for ransom. The threat is not deemed substantive. all three women were in Hawaii, with private guards protecting them.

Policeman and Teen Lost in Baja Desert Leave Messages
A Los Angeles policeman Frank E. Clausen 35 and 14 year old Steven Morris were stranded six days in northern Baja California. A sand message No food no water was found scratched by Clausen near his abandoned motorcycle with an arrow west. Morris, son of Robert H Morris 41, was rescued Monday after becoming incoherent from heat.

Settlement to Open Immigration Flow
United States federal court approved a consent decree to boost Western Hemisphere immigration by about 145000 new visas. Mexicans are expected to be the main beneficiaries as INS notes annual limits will rise from 20000 to accommodate the settlement. The case arose from a Mexican couple barred by quotas. officials acknowledge Cuban refugees were mistakenly counted in the Western Hemisphere quota.

Navy cites illiteracy crisis delaying recruit work
In San Diego Vice Admiral James D Watkins says widespread illiteracy among young Americans hampers Navy recruitment. He notes an illiterate sailor caused 250000 dollars in engine damage from unread instructions, and recruits are now taught to read up to a sixth grade level for urgent warnings. A study of 23000 recruits found 37 percent could not read at the 10th grade level, with 70 percent of those unable to finish boot camp.

Reconstructed eerie face aids De Kalb murder probe
In De Kalb Illinois anthropologists created a clay faced likeness from a murder victim found near Sycamore. The image is plastered citywide to spur tips as Sheriff Wilbur Scott notes possible local suspects and widespread calls from across the country. The victim was a Caucasian female about 16 to 22, five foot tall, 105 to 120 pounds with shoulder length light brown hair, left handed, and wearing a silver belt buckle with steer head designs.
