Midgets and bikes on tap at Santa Maria track

A field of top Southern California and Northern California midget racers will race tonight at Santa Maria Speedway. Local drivers Don Simkins Dan Simkins Cliff Vose and Steve Stanley will ride URA midgets. Duane Sears and others from Los Angeles Fresno expected to compete. Admission is 250 for adults 2 for students and servicemen. Tomorrow motorcyclists 200 strong chase final season trophies on the Toughest on the West Coast course.

Barrett Captures Lom Poc Jaycees Junior Golf Title

Rick Barrett of Santa Maria won the Lom Poc Jaycees second annual junior golf tourney finishing at one over par 73. Barrett claimed the event in a tight finish ahead of peers in a field highlighting young local talent.

Babe Ruth banquet set for tomorrow in Lompoc

The Lompoc Babe Ruth League will host its annual banquet tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. Three all star teams will be named, with age groups 13 and 14 15. The 13 year olds will host the state tournament August 2 11 while the older club runs district playoffs in early July. Barbecue chicken dinner priced 150 for adults 75 cents for children. Entertainment by the Senior Citizens Nut and Bolt Band and Kay LaRue and her trio. Tickets sold at the door.

Ponytail softball action opens with Kiwanis Kuties win

Karen Gist pitched a one hitter as Kiwanis Kuties defeated Village Associattes 12 to 1 in Ponytail League. Karen Cottam and Terry Lee added triples while Sis Johnson collected the lone hit for the losers. Other games featured Renfroe’s 17 5 win over S Vikings, Rene’s Richfield Gals 8 6 over Roadrunners, and Mrs Hinshaw’s 8 7 over Jr Angels in Colt League. The girls leagues, now in fifth year, span two divisions with 17 clubs and about 230 players at Harold Thompson Park under Julie Schlesser.
