Supervisors eye 10¢ county tax rate cut

Tough new food stamp laws delayed

A federal judge halted enforcement of new administration rules expected to remove about 4.1 million people from the food stamp program. U.S. District Judge John Lewis Smith Jr. ordered a delay until a full trial on claims by an anti hunger coalition that the rules are illegal. Government plans to appeal to implement the rules, originally set for June 1, are expected to continue.

The Federal Energy Administration says no shortage is expected this summer with ample supplies and strong refinery capacity. Crude oil prices are rising and a national average of 60 cents per gallon or more is possible, with prices seen climbing about two cents through the season.
