County study urges cutback to one county hospital

A county study filed with the Board of Supervisors recommends extending outpatient services and consolidating to a single county hospital for acute care. It cites underutilized beds, rising hospital costs, and Medi Cal revenue changes worsening financing in Santa Barbara County.

Lompoc Valley Art Association finalizes plans for the Flower Estival Art Mart and Art Show at Ryan Park on June 23 24 from 9 am to 5 pm. 75 artists from local California and out of state will display and sell works. Paintings for the Centennial Calendar will be shown and calendars sold.

Motorcycle crash injures Lom resident near Highway 1

ALOMPOC motorcyclist Scott Matthew Caldwell aged 24 of 516 South C Street sustained back injuries and abrasions after his bike drifted off Highway 1 north of Lom and crashed into a ditch. He was transported to Marian Hospital in Santa Maria for treatment per the CHP report.

Grand jury reports ruling feeds dispute with Dodson

District Attorney Minier informs the 1973 County Grand Jury of a state appellate court decision allowing public filing of grand jury reports without clearance. Judge Floyd C. Dodson contests the ruling, seeks a new hearing, and previously ejected Milner and an aide from his courtroom. The appeals court held Dodson erred in directing reports to him first and in sealing an interim report on pathologist Dr. Lawrence L. McAlpine.

New City Treasurer Appointed in Gloucester and Payscale

The City Council appoints Mrs France Martinez as City Treasurer to start June 25 after six months as acting treasurer and retirement of Irene Huseman. She began with the city in 1961 and 1962 with a salary between 766 and 935 dollars monthly. Ronald Aplin, 61, jailed nine months after smashing a window to protest unemployment and desire for longer prison time.

Mrs Mary Johnston 62 Lompoc Obituary Graveside Rites Tomorrow

Graveside services for Mrs Mary Paulina Johnston 62 die Wednesday at Lompoc District Hospital will be held tomorrow at 11 am at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Officiating will be Miguelito Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Johnston born 1910 in Louisiana lived in the area two years with daughter Grant Jennings at 3996 Constellation Road. She was a 25 year member of the Eastern Star and tied to Miguelito Chapter since 1972. She also belonged to Lompoc Senior Citizens. Survivors include daughter B R Lombardino and son Ben T Johnston Jr both in Louisiana, 11 grandchildren one great grandson and brother W Smith in Louisiana. Donations to J Clifford Lee Cancer Fund or charity of choice. Friends may call at McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel until 10 am tomorrow.

WWI Veteran Fathers to Be Honored Potluck Luncheon

World War I veterans who are fathers will be honored at a Sunday luncheon at the Retired Citizens Hospitality House 217 West Maple Avenue. Chicken and dumplings will be served 1 to 2 30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the hospitality house with help from the Auxiliary of the Veterans of World War I. Police records show the incident details and address.
