Poll results show Nixon support and Vietnam stance split
A California Poll of 545 adults finds 46 percent approve Nixon's Vietnam handling while 40 percent disapprove and 14 percent have no opinion. UPI reports Richard Oakes, 28, Indian leader, is in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital after a tavern brawl left him with a fractured skull. Homicide inspector Ken Manley says Oakes is unconscious and cannot be questioned, with a partial suspect name. Oakes underwent surgery Friday and shows partial improvement while still listed in critical condition. He had returned from the Pit River area near Redding where Owning Indians seek 3.5 million acres claimed taken during the gold rush. he previously led Mohawk-led actions including the seizure of Alcatraz Island.
