Surprises Mark Tuesday Primary In California Race

W. Don MacGillivray led eight candidates to 36,884 votes securing one runoff spot for Lagomarsino’s unexpired term while Omer Rains led Democrats. In Santa Barbara County, Kallman won the Second District without a runoff, and Gary Hart secured the Democratic Assembly nomination. Voter results also affected county budgets and building trends in Lompoc.

City approves three year plan for mass tree planting

Mayor E C Stevens won unanimous council backing for a three year project to plant 621 trees along H Street and Ocean Avenue starting in the core and expanding to major arterials. Estimates showed 16670 in material costs and 10000 for labor, but a pared plan was recommended. Stevens plans to refine the proposal before the June 18 council session.

Council uses Solomon to split a city lot for Oak Avenue

Lompoc City Council faces a land dispute between developer Montgomery Ward Co and landowner Louis Cagianut over a 32 foot Oak Avenue extension and a 32 foot corridor through Ward property. After two deadlocks, the council approves a narrower split, risking Cagianut losing about 20 to 32 feet of frontage depending on legal and safety findings, and signals ongoing development plans despite owner concerns.

Channel Islands sailing trip opens spaces on Swift of Ipswich

Four seats open on the Missile and Space Recreation Association chartered sailing trip to the Channel Islands aboard the 90 foot Swift of Ipswich. Due to personal problems the spaces cost 10 dollars each. Vandenberg AFB personnel may call Martha Estes at 736-3693 for more details.

Satellite launch from Vandenberg AFB during morning window

A Titan III-B Agena rocket lifted off at 9 30 this morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base by the Air Force Space and Missile Test Center. Maple High School opens to the public at 7 30 p m for graduation services with 13 diplomas to be awarded at Floradale Avenue site south of Central Avenue and west of Lompoc.
