Landmark Titan missile to be demolished by Lompoc council
Lompoc City Council voted unanimously to remove the 1960s Titan missile at the eastern gates near Vandenberg AFB. The cost to repair or repaint was deemed unaffordable, and the Air Force along with Grefco approved demolition. The site will become a park with the concrete pad kept for future uses. The air power relic, still owned by the Air Force, must be demilitarized before junking for scrap.
