Israel seeks wider POW swap after Syria Lebanon exchange

Israeli officials in Jerusalem say they will pursue a broader exchange of prisoners following the weekend deal that freed three Israeli pilots in exchange for 56 prisoners from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. Defense Minister Dayan cautioned against expecting a quick Egyptian swap. The returning Israelis appeared pale and thin.

Vandenberg Junior High to Stage Spring Concert

The Vandenberg Junior High School vocal music department presents its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the multi purpose room featuring seventh grade choirs and the concert choir. Ellen Burch directs Choir 7 and the concert choir, with Errol Haines directing Choir 7. Selections include The Sound of Music My Favorite Things So Long Farewell and more. Allan Hancock College to grant 752 degrees at June ceremony

Allan Hancock College will award 752 degrees this month 538 Associate in Arts and 214 Associate in Science. The ceremony is June 14 at 10 30 a m in the sports pavilion with about 150 graduates. Dan Moore will deliver the commencement address and Ernest Righetti will confer degrees. Marian Hancock Barry and Walter E. Conrad will participate in greetings and the welcome.

Severe thunderstorms strike Texas injuring four and causing damage

Severe storms swept Texas with at least sixteen tornadoes and heavy rains. Four people were injured, all minor, as funnel clouds hit Palestine and Groesbeck. Flash flooding flooded Randall and Comal counties, with three inches of rain in an hour near Waco. Severe storms also affected Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

Pentagon faction plans sabotage and draft reimposition

In Washington, a former Pentagon official accuses a faction of sabotaging the all volunteer system to push a return to the draft. Roger T. Kelley, who resigned as assistant secretary for manpower, says the drive faces resistance and warns of danger signals to his successor.

Renewed Efforts to Reform State Grand Jury System
