Date set for nurse service restoration in Lompoc area

Visiting nurse service will return to Lompoc and Santa Ynez June 14 ending an eight month hiatus. Lillian McCombs will split her time between Lompoc and Santa Ynez as the program expands with hospital space and phone support provided by Lompoc Hospital District. Patients pay what they can with some Medicare coverage possible and grants from United Fund. Annual Elks Lodge Flag Day ceremonies will be held at the Lodge 116 North I Street at 7 p.m. June 14 with Mayor Arthur Scott as main speaker.

Homes Needed for Students at Pacific Conservatory

The 1971 summer season of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts seeks housing for about 90 visiting students from U S and Canada. One to three bedroom rentals in private homes offered June 14 to August 25. contact Thelma Frounfelter at WA 2 1649.

Unique summer school plan offers electives for elementary students

Summer school will run six weeks for juniors and seniors from June 21 to July 30 with a separate five week session for younger students from June 28 to July 30. Bob Leck will direct the program with seven school principals named to lead each site and elective courses such as guitar for elementary pupils.

Body found in Yuba City peach orchard raises toll

A 24th body was unearthed in the Feather River peach orchard mass murder site near Yuba City California raising the toll to two dozen. Sheriff Roy Whiteaker said the body was located 300 feet from the river in the irrigation flooded area. In Marysville Juan Corona 37 faced 10 killings and a June 16 preliminary hearing after a 242 hour psychiatrist interview. The discovery may help locate additional victims as Western Aerial Photos notes infrared evidence.

BLM studies land for motor recreation in county

The U S Bureau of Land Management says no BLM lands in the county are suitable for a mechanized vehicle park while outlining an ongoing inventory to designate lands for open restricted or non use vehicle use. Officials note the process is lengthy and tied to regional planning.

Cabrillo names top students

Cabrillo High School will have two salutatorians and a valedictorian for commencement. Douglas Maple and Gregory Young share salutatory honors, while Karen Ewing is Valedictorian by a slim margin. Other seniors received awards as community leaders recognized their achievements.

Los Alamos Park Set to Open in September

Los Alamos County Park at the Drum Canyon mouth near Los Alamos will open Saturday September 25. County Park director George Adams says the site preserves local ranching history and will feature cattle-brand motifs and plans for a historical museum. The department has received offers of old stagecoaches carriages and narrow gauge railroad cars from the 1880s to 1930s. The park lies a twenty minute drive from Lompoc and Santa Maria and aims to attract visitors from across the north county.
