Fee sharing in Alioto bribery trial rejected as improper charge

In Tacoma, UPI reports Judge Ray McNichols told jurors there is nothing improper about sharing legal fees when based on division of work. The defense involved San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto with John J. O Connell and George K. Faler over a 15 percent contingency fee from a $16.2 million Washington utility damages suit. The prosecution sought to label fee sharing as bribery but the judge declined to include that in jury instructions.
