Lompoc May Keep Bed Tax Increase Amid County Rollback

City officials expect to retain the one cent transient occupancy tax hike despite Santa Barbara County Supervisors overturning a prior seven percent bed tax in unincorporated areas. Mayor E C Stevens cites state-wide parity and new revenue to offset rising costs including a 50 percent Blue Cross rate change. City Administrator Gene L Wahlers notes the extra revenue equates about two cents on the city tax rate and no repeal is planned. The council meets tonight to review the 1976 77 budget.
