A young man named Mike Monroe, jobless and hooked on a $50 daily heroin habit, obsessively searches for ways to fund another day of euphoria. He recounts shoplifting clothes, forging IDs and checks, snatching purses, stealing cars, and even pilfering credit cards, all while roaming Philadelphia streets and nursing a growing desperation.

Army officers named in Vietnam service reports from Lompoc

Army P1C Charles B. Yarling, 24, son of Mr and Mrs Byron H Yarling of Lompoc, was assigned as a combat engineer with the American Division in Vietnam. Army First Lieutenant James D. Roberts, 22, also of Lompoc, was assigned as an advisor to the Vietnamese 5th Mobile Force near Nha Trang. Roberts, who entered the Army in October 1964, holds the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. His wife Carla resides in Do than Alabama, CONDOVE Italy. Troops using flame throwers and napalm failed to exterminate thousands of caterpillars infesting vineyards in a Piedmont town, per provincial officials.
