Palmer calls for voluntary media limits on campaign costs

Democratic Assembly nominee Kenneth A. Palmer urged newspapers radio and television to cut campaign ad costs and provide free exposure to candidates. He spoke before the Greater Santa Barbara Advertising Club describing costs as scandalous threatening democracy and predicting government media controls unless self regulation improves. The remarks came as he noted federal and state bills aim to limit ad spend and argued voluntary media action suits free enterprise. In Christchurch England police work begins on new town hall police station and magistrates court with court to be held there.

Cat Diggle Included in Neighborhood Watch

Salisbury residents urged to report sight of Diggle the cat after Diggle, raised in a litter of puppies, chases other felines and favors dogs. A separate Political and Economic Planning Study note warned employers about absenteeism if tea breaks vanish.

Workshop Pros Help Minority Businessmen in New York

A volunteer force of 100 businessmen, mostly white, runs a 16 week Workshop in Business Opportunities to train minority entrepreneurs in New York City and Westchester. Since 1966 about 1,200 students started, 600 completed, with 50 to 75 percent of graduates in business today. The Rockefeller Foundation funded a $50,000 grant to expand the program.
