Court rebukes importation of baby seal skins
A federal appeals court ruled that government regulations allowing the import of more than 12,000 baby seal skins from South Africa violated the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The DC Circuit overturned a lower ruling and voided the 1976 waiver permitting imports for that year, citing imports from nursing seals and young pups. The Fouke Co. had been the sole U.S. importer.
