Realtors urge buy but it's not easy amid high down payments
Real estate agents urge buyers to purchase now before prices rise but many face scarce mortgage money and high rates. In Atlanta there is little mortgage money unless veteran status exists, and even then rates are high. Some markets show 9 percent or more, while Hartford requires 50 percent down. Analysts predict prices may rise up to 16 percent yearly through 1975, urging buyers with large downs to act despite high interest rates.

Los Angeles officials announced an 11 percent pay and fringe benefit increase for Department of Water and Power employees, costing an estimated 14.6 million. After a five day walkout by 5,500 workers, four unions ratified the one year contract with a fifth expected to confirm. Mayor Tom Bradley helped broker the settlement during a 21 hour mediation with a state official. DWP commissioners would meet to approve the pact and seek dismissal of a temporary restraining order against the strike.
