U S Death Toll Drops in Vietnam War

Former officials recount postwar China before Senate panel

John Stewart Service and John Paton Davies testified for four hours to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, arguing that Washington should have favored engagement with Mao and Chou En-lai. Helicopter landings trigger FAA concern in Ballard district

Seattle officers cited an unlicensed helicopter pilot, a 44 year old flying student, for giving rides to his son and friends during repeated landings on a Ballard playfield. San Quentin Guard Fatally Stabbed During Prison Scuffle

San Quentin guard Leo G. Davis, 38, was stabbed nine times outside inmate Herman Earl Johnson’s hospital cell and died from a pierced lung. Johnson, 25, had testified in another inmate slaying trial and was hospitalized after being stabbed two days earlier. Four inmates attacked for access to keys. three knives recovered as five inmates were questioned. Davis leaves four children.
