Lompocans among winners in County Fair art show

Lompoc artists win multiple prizes at the Santa Barbara County Fair Art Show. Michael Bravo of Santa Maria earned Best of Show for a graphic titled ELAY. Marilyn Haback Cronk of Santa Maria won Best of Show for Waiting in professional oil. Awards also went to Pat Reynolds SLO, Marion Kay SLO, Roy Ekstrom Lompoc, and others across oils, watercolors, drawings, and ceramics.

MacGillivray seeks Senate hearings on Santa Barbara drilling moratorium

Assemblyman W Don MacGillivray R 36th District asks the U S Senate Interior Committee to hold hearings in Santa Barbara to study a five year moratorium on oil drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel He cites California protections and Channel Islands monument as reasons to act before further drilling risks beaches and the environment.

Lake Los Carneros Park Investigative Committee Formed

County supervisors appoint a six member Lake Los Carneros Investigative Committee to study purchasing Goleta Valley lake and converting it into a county regional park. Members include Mrs. Chris Bratt Dr. Wallace Short Mrs. Joyce Girvan Mrs. Joy Parkinson George H. Adams and Charles Begg. The group will meet with the County Park Commission in September and report back with possible funding sources and recommended action.
