Harris spree defense labels acts a youth escapade
Defense attorney Leonard Weinglass argued the Harrises acts during the 1974 crime spree were a youthful escapade tied to the Symbionese Liberation Army and Patty Hearst. The trial focused on shell casings and bullet fragments found at Mel's Sporting Goods and testimony from witnesses who retrieved them. The Harrises and Hearst face 11 counts of kidnapping robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

State to build largest solar powered office complex in California
Sacramento plans call for a 14 million solar powered state office building south of the Capitol across from the Health Department highrise. Solar heating and lighting would cover about 80 percent of energy needs using heat sinks and glass walls. The design, by state architect Sim Van der Ryn, costs 10 percent more to build but should cut operating costs by about half over 50 years.
