California lawmakers begin work on homeowner renter rebates
Six legislators interrupt summer recess to form a conference committee on three property tax and renter relief bills. Sen. Nicholas Petris chairs the panel and pushes SB154 a 1.3 billion plan with 80 percent of relief to homeowners under 20 000 income. Gov Brown’s SB12 and AB999 proposals also aim aimed relief to low and middle income earners with major portions of funds going to those earning 20 000 or less. The group plans rebates via next year’s income tax returns with details still TBD until August 1 when the full legislature reconvenes.
