Babe seniors edge Santa Maria 7-0 in tune-up win

Lompoc Senior Babe Ruth All-Stars defeated Santa Maria 7-0 in a warm-up for Saturday's sectional playoff opener in Mountain View. Rick Fridrich had two singles and a double driving in two runs, Bruce Duncan added two RBIs, and five Lompoc pitchers held the Saints to four hits.

Valley Mets Take 5 2 Win Over Pirates

The Lompoc-Vandenberg Mets beat the Santa Maria Pirates 5-2 in Central Conference action. Don Landry scored in the first, Monty Wise homered in the third, Ken Murphy had a squeeze bunt in the fifth, and Dennis Hall struck out 11 as the Mets improve to 6-4. They close first-round league play Friday at Elks Field in Santa Maria against the San Luis Blues at 7:30 p.m.

Dodgers pitcher John sidelined by elbow pain after game

Dr. Frank Jobe examined John after the game and iced the arm. Trainer Bill Buhler said the pain was above and below the elbow but not in the elbow itself. John was left off the National League All-Star squad and will be re examined today for swelling.
