Fair opening ceremony set for Santa Barbara County Fair

Flags and flowers will mark the opening of the Santa Barbara County Fair on Tuesday July 24 at noon in front of the Main Gate. Master of Ceremonies James Klucker of KCOY TV will host with visiting dignitaries, the fair board, and theme girl Suzanne Skeeters. The ribbon will be cut by Miss Skeeters after a welcome by Fair Board President Terry Sheehy. At 1 pm the Plaza Stage hosts the Orcutt Summer School Band directed by Dave Cummings with performances during the week.

Outstanding enlisted men named for 6596th squadron

The 6596th Instrumentation Squadron of Air Force Systems Command selected its top enlisted men of the quarter. Airman First Class Terry L. Davis from Fort Worth Texas won Outstanding First Term. Technical Sergeant Richard Freias of Haverhill Massachusetts is the W Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter. Master Sergeant William E. Franklin is the Senior Noncommissioned Officer. Davis serves as an automatic tracking instrumentation repairman with the 6596th Tracking Station. Freias is a quality control inspector with the same unit. Franklin and his wife are Californians from Bakersfield. he previously served with the 6595th Aerospace Test Wing before 1970. Marine Second Lieutenant Gary N. Graves, son of Norman C. Graves of Lompoc, made his first Navy solo flight at Pensacola Florida. He is a 1968 Folsom High School graduate and a 1972 Sacramento State College graduate. Marine Corporal Richard Z. Delira, son of Estanislado and, of Lompoc, was promoted while serving at Camp Pendleton and is a logistics clerk. a former Lompoc Senior High student who joined the Marine Corps in December 1969.
