City to aid downtown plan with merchant commitment

The City of Lompoc said it will fund 150000 for downtown street and alley improvements if local merchants sign binding commitments to upgrade their own properties. A Revitalization Committee will verify pledges within six months. success triggers a legal, enforceable pact. The council also accepted an 8771250 federal grant toward the 12 million wastewater system.

County moving day nears and labor dispute at Del Mar Packing

About 40 Teamsters farm workers staged a peaceful picket at Del Mar Packing Co. in Central and Union Sugar Avenues over a contract dispute. Sheriff’s deputies assisted after workers refused to leave company property. no information on causes was provided. Separately, county offices plan moves into consolidated spaces with several departments, including Resources and Collections, Auditor-Controller, Environmental Quality, Elections Bureau, and Manpower Training, to be completed within two months.

Environmental hearings proceed tomorrow with County Environmental Coordinator Albert F. Reynolds and experts.
