County to seek operator for Lompoc Airport
County supervisors authorized a two week advertising drive to solicit proposals for a new fixed base operator at Lompoc Airport after the prior FBO defaulted on its contract. Public Works Director Norman Caldwell said proposals will be reviewed by the County Airport Committee on July 31 with a final selection expected by August 6.

Safe stolen from La Purisima Mission
Burglars broke into the La Purisima Mission office near Lompoc and stole a floor safe containing small cash. The loss, including the safe, is about 500 dollars. Charles L. McMullen found the theft at 8 15 a m yesterday as the office opened. the burglary occurred between 6 p m Sunday and opening time. The safe measured 17 by 17 by 20 inches and weighed 125 to 150 pounds and could be rolled. Gerald Morrison, a State Parks security agent, joined detectives in the investigation.
