Three Die in Vegas Blaze On Eighth Floor

A second fire in five days at the Mark I Apartments near the Las Vegas Strip killed three people and forced the evacuation of more than 200. Two victims were tentatively identified as Andrew and Lois Dieterman. Fire officials said the blaze began after midnight on the eighth floor with arson and homicide investigators on scene. Dozens were treated for burns and smoke inhalation, including George McQuarn of the University of Las Vegas coaching staff who reportedly saved his life by leaping to the apartment below.
