Minuteman II Launch From Vandenberg AFB Reported
A Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from Vandenberg AFB at 11:55 p.m. by a combat crew from the 341st Strategic Missile Wing based at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, sent down the Western Test Range. In Santa Maria a woman Deloris Bartholomew was treated for injuries after an assault and theft by three strangers who fled in her 1966 Cadillac. Police described the suspects as two men and a woman met in a Santa Maria bar and driven to the Lompoc Fact Bar, where the assault and theft occurred shortly before 24.00 today. Vandalism damaged sections of the Village Country Club Golf Course last night with a car, the second such incident in a week. earlier damage was about $1,000 to five greens.

Nine killed in Golden Gate Bridge crash
A head on collision on the Golden Gate Bridge killed nine people and left one critically injured. Traffic was blocked for over an hour amid witnesses describing gruesome scenes and CHP officials declaring it the worst crash in the bridge's 33 year history.
