Egypt claims cross Suez raid by commandos in night strike

Egypt said its commandos crossed the Suez Canal into the Israeli-occupied Sinai during the night and inflicted heavy casualties. Israel denied the claim but said it attacked across the region, with air defenses engaging. Egyptian reports also noted Israeli air strikes along the canal and other crossings.

Guards poised to move into Michigan City Indiana

Indiana National Guard troops stood by to enter Michigan City after weekend racial violence. At least 30 people were arrested for firebombings and rock throwing sparked by arrests at a downtown tavern. Massive onslaught kills 405 in Khe Sanh area battle

In five days of fighting near the abandoned Khe Sanh zone, UPI reports 405 North Vietnamese troops killed by American firepower. U.S. 101st Airborne gunships and B52 bombers supported ground troops, with 33 more Hanoi soldiers killed in Sunday skirmishes. Six Americans dead, five wounded as forces in Vietnam total dipped to 411,500.
