Salmon fishing fairs near Port San Luis and San Simeon

Rod and gun salmon fishing out of Port San Luis is fair to good with 34 boats and 60 salmon last week. Skip Sato fished and caught three large salmon. San Simeon reports fabulous limits. Ventura area sees calico and sand bass. halibut common but not prolific. DFG reports 15000 striped bass tagged in Delta, with 750 reward tags and 32000 creel fishing last year. Botulism shots in Kern refuge. barley replaced by safflower to reduce risk.

A general meeting is set for Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the Lompoc Public Library multi purpose room. Officers for the 1974 season will be elected and all who are interested in Little League are urged to attend.

Windward Passage Holds Minor Lead in Transpac Race

Windward Passage clung to a 15 mile lead in the Transpacific Yacht Race, 2235 miles from Los Angeles to Honolulu, with light winds hindering a record attempt. Skipper Mark Johnson of NYYC helms the 73 foot ketch ahead of Ragtime, 1337 miles from Diamond Head. Windward Passage previously set the 1971 record of nine days nine hours six minutes.
