Safety Council predicts 650 traffic deaths for holiday weekend
The National Safety Council forecast 550 to 650 road fatalities over the three day Fourth of July holiday, starting 6 p.m. Thursday and ending midnight Sunday, compared with about 500 in a nonholiday period. The prior three day record was 577 in 1966 and the all time 732 in 1967. An UPI tally at 5 a.m. PDT counted at least 55 deaths so far.
