Board backs denial of large area land split near Lompoc

The Board of Supervisors unanimously upheld the Planning Commission denial of Rammco Investment Corp for splitting a 200 plus acre parcel south of the La Purisima Mission into four lots of about nine eighteen twenty three and 163 acres. The commission cited aim to limit agricultural land division to prevent urbanization near the historic mission.

Sheriff plans patrol strength shift across Lompoc Santa Maria Solvang

Sheriff John W. Carpenter announces a planned adjustment to patrol staffing across Lompoc Santa Maria and Solvang to better match workloads. Lompoc gains to 10 percent of force, Santa Maria rises to 18 percent, Solvang to 10 percent, while Santa Barbara Coastal area drops to 60 percent. Overall deputies available per hour reduce from 18 to 15 county wide.

Elks flag ceremony and July 4 events at Lompoc

The Elks Lodge No. 2274 will host a respectful flag retirement at Miguelito Park and accept worn flags at 116 North I Street. Also planned are an immunization clinic July 5 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building and a Bike Rodeo at Ryan Park with four age divisions and five contest areas. Police/dui cases and a USIU graduation are noted.

Stanford opens Hotel Insomnia dorm for sleep study

Stanford University announced a specially equipped dormitory to study insomnia and recruit volunteers. Dr. William C. Dement said insomnia affects about 20 million Americans and that hundreds of sufferers are needed to identify causes. Two problems were identified in prior studies.

William R. Krisher memorial service set at Peace Lutheran

William R. Krisher 51 will be honored Friday at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor David Miller. Private interment at Starbuck Mortuary. He was born in Indiana in 1922 and lived in Lompoc 15 years after a career as a missile technician for McDonnell-Douglas at Vandenberg AFB. He leaves wife Barbara, daughters Brenda Carpenter and Cheryl Hartsfield, sons Dan James Krisher and William Krisher Jr., sister Phyllis Davis, and brothers Robert and Harold Krisher. Carmichael resigns planning post over SEDA duties

Charles Carmichael submitted his resignation from the Lompoc Planning Commission citing potential conflict with his new role as director of the Lompoc Valley Economic Development Association. The council, missing Sol Lefkowitz, will decide July 16. May delay appointments across several boards.

Beattie Park funding eyed from State Bond Act

Lompoc City Council approved two resolutions that could bring more than $100,000 in state funds for Beattie Park improvements. Santa Barbara County totals $1,129,902 from the 1974 State Bond Act. Lompoc’s share is $104,427. County Parks Director Mike Pahos will present to the Board of Supervisors on July 8 to meet a July 15 deadline. The council also actions on G Street improvements and various street issues, excluding the A B alley due to a resident’s access concern.

City adopts zoning and environmental fees with one change

The council approved a resolution setting zoning and environmental assessment fees, with an appealed permit now costing 25 dollars instead of 10. Home use permits face 35 dollars, while other increases apply to zone changes 100 dollars and conditional use and variance fees 75 dollars. Environmental assessments stay 50 dollars, reports 100 plus prep. Also new charges for temporary use permits 25, construction equipment storage 15, and 2 dollars per person for carnival sales.

Burglary at C and D Electronics on U Street

Police say C and D Electronics at 117 North U St was burglarized last night with over $500 in sound gear taken. An officer found broken glass at 5:45 a.m. and the store interior ransacked, suspecting entry through the front and exit via the rear alley door. Loss items include an amplifier with speakers and multiple audio devices.
