Fourth of July activities at First Southern Baptist Church

Dr W B Timberlake will preach a 11:00 a m Fourth of July sermon at First Southern Baptist Church with a Sunday Evening message Hands Up and songs by the church choir. The program includes a Saturday 7:00 p m hymn, a youth gospel anthem, a controversial youth auction fundraiser, camp plans at Hume Lake July 1 7, and a 3 30 5 30 pm church conference prep session. Chaplain Gibson of Vandenberg AFB will speak at Calvary Baptist Church at 11:00 a m Sunday. The board also discusses Mission SHARE and a July 5 Fourth of July picnic at Royon Park with games and food.

Rights of man and liberty sermon at Christian Science church

Southland Seventh-day Adventists announce their second annual Camp Meeting for July 9 to 11 at Cuddy Ranch in Frazier Park. Over 200 families expected. tent for 800 people will be pitched. attendees supply food water and lodging. Earlier ten day camp meeting ended, with new sectional convocations planned across Southern California amid growing attendance and fire concerns.

Valley Chapel Plans Independence Day Themed Services

Valley Chapel announces Sunday services centered on Independence Day. At 11 a.m. Rev. David Chamberlain will speak on North America Revolution or Revival with the Harvey Sisters and Betty Nelson as featured soloist. A 6 p.m. prayer service follows led by Rev. George Hood, and at 7 p.m. Rev. Chamberlain returns with Four Different Bibles as the theme.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Schedules Communion and Events

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 209 E Central Ave will hold Holy Communion this Sunday at 8 and 10 a.m. Church School begins for first grade and up. Workdays for the Art Fair and a song book compilation run Monday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. Holy Communion is celebrated at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and the choir rehearses at 9 a.m. on Sundays.

A study shows religious gifts rose 3.5 percent in 1970, while inflation cut dollar value 5.3 percent, leaving real income for churches down. Giving to health, human services and education rose, but religion's share of philanthropy fell from over half to under 45 percent. Per capita Protestant giving about 87 dollars annually. Catholics and Jews similar or lower.
