A light plane with five aboard crashed about a mile offshore near Pismo Beach. One body recovered, one survivor, three missing including Lt. Col. Ronald Beckett and his six year old daughter Ruth along with Rev. Kenneth Hope. Rhonda Beckett survived by swimming to shore. Coast Guard divers to search the site.

Rabies Case Rises in Santa Barbara County Wildlife
The Health Department reports the eighth animal rabies case in Santa Barbara County since 1972, diagnosed June 25. A skunk found at 1035 Alamo Pintado Solvang tested rabid, part of 16 total animal rabies cases since 1956, with bats involved in at least 12 cases.
