Vandenberg protocol office handles thousands of visitors yearly
The 1st Strategic Aerospace Division office known as Chief of Staff Orientation and Protocol at Vandenberg Field manages about 5 000 visitors annually. In 1968 the CSOP arranged for 229 groups. the previous year it hosted 303 groups. Protocol officers are trained missile officers who explain launch facilities and support social functions. Major James K Sweeney leads the unit and emphasizes qualifications and people skills. Visitors include high level defense and civilian leaders such as senators Burdick and Smith and foreign military officials.
