Disaster floods hit Southern California millions in damage
In a nine day siege of subtropical rain, thousands were displaced and the death toll rose past 90 with damages statewide over 35 million dollars. Evacuations, mudslides, and washed out bridges cut rail and road access as the National Guard assisted.

3000 Marines Push to Break Red Stronghold in Vietnam
UPI reports 3000 U.S. Marines and infantrymen began a final push on the Pantangan Peninsula, aiming to rout Communist forces. The operation follows a two week drive, with three days left to complete the last two miles. Seven Marines died Sunday when their armored mine sweeper exploded.

Kremlin letter spurs Prague crackdown over Palach funeral
