Zodiac strikes again cabbie critically wounded in San Francisco

A 28 year old cab driver, Charles Jarman, was shot in Presidio Heights during a Saturday night shift. Police say the attack resembles the Zodiac killings, including a link to the November 1969 Stine slaying and taunting letters. Authorities caution it is too soon to confirm the Zodiac connection.

Freezing Weather Confined to Northern States Amid Thaw

A moderating trend spread across the United States with bitter conditions limited to the northern tier. The mid winter thaw was driven by warm Pacific and Gulf air while the Great Lakes saw light snow and freezing rain in the North Atlantic states. Hazardous driving hit Pennsylvania New Jersey New York and parts of New England with showers along the Pacific coast and inland to the Great Lakes. Florida enjoyed springlike warmth as some moisture fell elsewhere.

Soviet Journalists Tour Berkeley and San Francisco Transit

Eleven Soviet journalists joined UC Berkeley students and locals for a day on Telegraph Avenue and a Student Center rock concert while learning about Bay Area transit features. The delegation, part of a three week U.S. tour, met with officials and toured local sites before heading to Sacramento and beyond.

New Play Set at Allan Hancock College

A new play Rags to Riches opens at Allan Hancock College Performing Arts Center Monday February 2 running through February 7 with daily four o clock performances and double shows on weekends. Singers to Perform Tonight in Lompoc Chamber Concert

Senate leaders back bill to ease drug penalties

Senate leaders predict passage of a bill reducing penalties for using or selling marijuana and other drugs. The measure eliminates mandatory jail for first offenses, sets five and ten year terms for repeat offenders, and includes a study of drug effects. An amendment to curb no knock entries drew opposition.

Governor Cahill's Son Arrested for Marijuana Possession

Philadelphia report notes Governor William Cahill of New Jersey says his 19 year old son John was arrested for possession of marijuana and released on 200 dollar bond. He faces felony charges and will appear in court on February 4 as Cahill pledges equal treatment and family support.
