Board downzones Santa Ynez Valley land with few protests

The Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors approved most planning commission rezoning motions amid small protests from Hastings Harcourt and Santa Barbara Properties. The 839 acre Solvang Buellton corridor area shifts from 10 to 20 acre general agriculture, halving potential density, while five nearby owners stayed silent. The vote supports preserving agricultural land, preventing ranchette style five acre plots, and preserving the valley’s tourist economy and unique character. The phase plan covers five areas with hearings set for February 7 and 14, aiming for an ordinance effective in about 60 days.
