Two ABA Signings Highlight McDaniels and Porter Deals

Jim McDaniels of Western Kentucky and Howard Porter of Villanova signed professional contracts with the American Basketball Association. The Charlotte newspaper reported the players were assigned to franchises that drafted them in a secret draft, with McDaniels chosen by Utah and Porter by Pittsburgh in the first round.

United Press International reports former Kansas star Jim Ryun pleased by a relaxed 4 04.4 mile victory in his first appearance in 19 months at the All-American Games in San Francisco. Al Feuerbach set a world indoor shot put mark at 68 11. Ravelomanatsoa starred in NAIA meets and semifinals with a 60 yard dash clocking near world mark levels.

Renfro Leads NFC to 27-6 Pro Bowl Victory

Lompoc fifth Cabrillo seventh in Cal Poly tourney

Local high school wrestlers posted strong showings at the Cal Poly High School Tournament. Lompoc placed fifth with 55 points and Cabrillo finished seventh with 45 as Madera edged MacLane for the team title with 102 points. Cabrillo’s wins included Don Willis in 168 pounds, with Witzgall and Gillespie also placing. Lompoc’s Marv Cook led individual effort, while Riley, Moya and Loken and Rodriguez earned various places in lighter weight classes.

Monte Carlo Rally Drivers Face Alpine Snow Test

The remaining 201 teams in the Monte Carlo Auto Rally battled heavy snow and ice in the French Alps near Rouaine and Pont des Miolan. Officials expected at least 50 cars to drop out on the final leg into Monte Carlo as the speed-test would determine early leaders after three days of nonstop travel across Europe.

Reed Sparks Knicks Past Celtics and Pistons in Weekend WOW

Babe Ruth Registration Seeks 13 to 15 Year Old Players

Lompoc Babe Ruth League schedules registration at Pioneer Park in February and March. A $5 fee birth certificate and a parent or guardian present are required. Signups: Feb 7 14 21 1 PM to 4 PM and Feb 27 9 AM to 4 PM. Tryouts: Feb 27 and March 6 with 9 AM to noon for 13 year olds and 1 PM to 4 PM for 14 and 15 year olds.

Village Hills II league signs up players this winter

The Village Hills Little League and Senior Division announce registration on January 30 February 6 and February 13 from 10 am to 3 pm at the league park near Cabrillo High School on Sirius Avenue. Eligibility includes boys eight before August 1 or under 13 for Little League and ages 13 to 15 for Senior Division. A $5 fee with a $10 cap per family plus birth date proof and parental attendance are required.
