Amigos of Lompoc Seek Volunteers for Central American Missions

The Amigos de las Americas subchapter in Lompoc invites volunteers aged 16 or older to three week medical and language training trips to Honduras Paraguay Guatemala Colombia and Nicaragua. Participants pay 250 for airfare plus fundraise about 450 more via a 20 mile hike. Volunteers immunize children and aid rural communities while living in local settings with no religious or government affiliation.

Gowans Wins County Bar Plebiscite For Santa Barbara Bench

Arnold D. Gowans a former bar association president and U S Commissioner led a plebiscite for the Santa Barbara Goleta Municipal Court vacancy with 85 votes. Charles F. Catterlin received 32 and Ronald C. Stevens 21. Other candidates included Robert Eckhoff Eugene Flynn Alice Merenbach Dana Smith Robert Monk and Robert Sneddon. Results go to Governor Reagan. a vacancy occurred when Judge Walter Parent retired.

Coastal Agricultural Chemical will apply a non persistent soil sterilant Atrazine and Amino Trizole to 54 private city lots on a voluntary basis. The cost is 2.91 per thousand sq ft, borne by lot owners, with a potential mandatory discing program next spring and a higher expected price.
