County Commission to hear Honey case in full
The Ventura County Civil Service Commission voted to hear the Joel B. Honey appeal as a panel, with four of five members present. The hearing opens February 15 in the County Administration Building, with attorney James T. Lindsey representing Honey and negotiations to shorten his presentation. A 12th misconduct charge was added, alleging Honey urged officers to use throw away weapons during Isla Vista riots and to burn buildings if rioters were killed.

Five Santa Barbara suspects arraigned in dynamite case
Four men and an 18 year old girl were to be arraigned on federal charges of possession and sale of 600 pounds of dynamite after officers nabbed them in a Las Padres National Forest area near Flores Flat. A 16 year old juvenile was also in custody. Authorities describe a $2000 payoff for 1000 sticks and the group’s ties to no known radical group. The dynamite was stored behind a rock near a forest service road and three months earlier 250 pounds had been bought by Treasury agents from a member of the group. The arrests followed a Gibraltar Road roadblock and the seizure involved two trucks and a rifle in the possession of one man.
