Armistice Signed as Biafra Pledges Loyalty to Nigeria

The secessionist state of Biafra signed an armistice with Nigeria and pledged total loyalty to the federal government after a three hour meeting at Dodan barracks. Gen. Gowon and Maj. Gen. Effiong led the talks with a five member Biafran delegation. Ojukwu had fled the country last weekend.

Hawaiian Islands Storm Damage Reaches 5 Million

Officials pegged damage at 5 million after 100 mph winds swept the Hawaiian Islands destroying homes and military facilities. In Oahu 150 people evacuated to Red Cross shelters as roofs blew off and six people were injured.

Budget cuts cripple atom energy use

Rep. Chet Holifield says Nixon Administration slashed Atomic Energy Commission funding for the Plowshare program by about 14.5 million dollars for 1970, crippling peaceful nuclear energy projects like oil and gas reclamation, earth moving, harbor work, and a potential interoceanic canal. He spoke to 600 scientists at a symposium, urging reality over a balanced-budget goal amid the cuts.

Mystery airplane disappearance near Cebada Canyon remains unsolved

An Air Force helicopter and ground teams failed to locate a reported twin engine plane seen veering into Cebada Canyon with a smoke trail. Anti-Vietnam War protesters clashed with police outside the Intercontinental Hotel in Auckland as Vice President Spiro T. Agnew arrived for a three day visit.
