Soviet Leader PODGORNY and Sadat Meet in Cairo

Soviet President Nikolai V. Podgorny met Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in Cairo to discuss Soviet military support for Egypt. Podgorny pledged reliable backing and dismissed secret objectives, while Sadat warned of a threat from Israel aided by the United States. Israel accused Egypt of cease fire violations near the Suez Canal days earlier. In Amman, Jordan, a renewed cease-fire was announced after heavy fighting and attacks by guerrillas.

Bobby Baker jailed after surrender to federal marshals

Robert G. Bobby Baker, once a Senate page and Lyndon Johnson ally, entered Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary to begin a one to three year sentence for fraud theft and income tax evasion. He was escorted by three U.S. marshals in handcuffs wearing sunglasses in rainy weather. Newsmen followed as he arrived for surrender near the marshal's offices.

Lompoc offers school bus safety course Jan 27 March 13

Beginning January 27 the Lompoc Adult School will run a bus safety and driver training course taught by Albert J Sauvadon, instructor certified after completing the CHP Academy program. Registration is 6.50 per applicant. class meets Tuesdays and Saturdays with enrollment January 27 at 7 p.m. in science room 7A, Lompoc High. The Lompoc Elks Lodge solicits rehabilitation items for Veterans Hospitals ending February 13 including appliances, books, clothing and more. donations called in to Bill Downey or the Lodge.

Corvair owners to be warned

Douglas A. Toms head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urged Transportation Secretary John Volpe to issue a consumer protection bulletin to about 600,000 owners of 1960 to 1969 Corvairs. The advisory would alert drivers to carbon monoxide seepage without declaring a defect while GM contest remains unresolved.

Medina ordered killing of a boy at My Lai trial evidence

Former infantryman James Errol Flynn testified Captain Ernest Medina told Charlie Company to kill everything that moved at My Lai. Flynn described a four to five year old boy being shot near a group of 15 to 20 corpses as Medina shouted for the boy to be killed.
