The American National Bank of Bakersfield merges with Santa Ynez Valley Bank of Solvang effective Monday January 11. The new bank will be named American National Bank with SYVB offices becoming Santa Ynez Valley Office and Buellton Office. Ray Dezember chairs and leads as president. Helmer Harrison becomes senior VP and director. ANB operates three Bakersfield offices and additional branches in Lancaster Palmdale and Rosamond. Open-Sambo's Restaurants plans a Buellton outlet at 321 McMurray Road, managed by Peter Schmidt. Schmidt, 33, longtime Solvang resident, is to become owner-manager. Lanval Corp announces Phil Cardin, USAF retired, has joined in land investment outreach after leading local fundraising. YMCA announces a nine week Fitness and Sports class for ages six to nine starting January 16.
