Planners Still Oppose SY Valley Residential Push
Santa Ynez Valley planners say Insignis, Inc. cannot gain approval for a large scale east of Solvang project due to density exceeding the General Plan. The revised Insignis plan proposes 427 units, 43 fewer than before. Staff also rejects Petan Co. Alisal Ranch plans for about 900 clustered homes near Solvang in a lake area on the 10 000 acre property. Approval is recommended for ESI Land Technology LA for a separate residential development.

Weather blitz and planning clash loom in 102 acre debate
Strong Chinook winds in the Northern Rockies and cold snaps in California threaten crops and trigger power outages. In California, growers fear $1 million in damages from early week freeze, while a Glendale building under construction collapsed after winds. In Solvang Santa Ynez area planners weigh General Plan amendments for 75 to 1,000 new housing units on agricultural land, with density concerns and precedent for other ranches.
