Autopsy planned for Liston after Las Vegas death

Sonny Liston, 38, was found dead at his Paradise Palms home near the Sahara Nevada golf course. Deputy Coroner Dick Mayne said an autopsy would determine the cause of death, with Liston having lived in Las Vegas after a tumultuous boxing career highlighted by world title wins and defeats.

Lompoc routs San Marcos in league wrestling opener

Lompoc High dominated its first league wrestling meet, shutting out San Marcos 49-0 with five pins led by Alan Holoubek and Bill Beattie. San Marcos forfeited five matches, while Roger Byler edged Don Lyons 6-5 in a 165-pound thriller.

Hancock College's basketball Bulldogs opened conference play with an 81 73 win over Cuesta of San Luis Obispo. Perry Hanstad, a 6 5 freshman forward and former Righetti standout, led all scorers with 35 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. The team features height and solid backcourt play but struggled with 17 turnovers and inconsistency in the second half.

Braves Rally Past Royals Behind Brooks 28 Points
