California moves to curb smog and pesticides in 1970s bill drive

In Sacramento the legislature opened an election year push to purge California of smog and persistent pesticides. The package seeks a $6,000 daily fine for air polluters, bans on DDT, a coast line zoning commission, and lead from gasoline by 1974. Measures proposed curb agricultural burning and regulate power plant expansion, with a 6,000 mile car test and possible ban on the smog eng ine by 1975.

Police cricket team honored for catching bra theft suspect

Torquay England police praised by Liverpool police chief after officers on a cricket tour spotted a 20 year old breaking a bus window and stealing bras. They chased, recovered the items, and returned the suspect to the central station near their hotel.
