Redistricting to top 1971 county agenda in Lompoc board
Five member board begins 1971 with redistricting as a major task based on new census data. Daniel G. Grant, new chairman, says boundaries may shift to balance population, with Goleta, Santa Ynez Valley, Buellton, and Santa Barbara areas among potential changes. Population counts show Second and Fifth District at 56,969. First District 36,031. Third 67,719. Fourth 46,187. The plan aims for equal representation though it may prove vexing and controversial.
