Indians seize Wounded Knee trading post in hostage crisis
Federal officers sealed the Oglala Sioux reservation as about 300 AIM militants besieged Wounded Knee in South Dakota. Ten hostages were reported from residents of the town amid sporadic gunfire. at least 17 people were arrested attempting to flee.

UPI reports a lull in fighting across South Vietnam Cambodia and Laos though U.S. warplanes bombed targets in Cambodia. South Vietnamese forces logged 100 truce violations in 24 hours the lowest since February. The Central Highlands saw the heaviest clashes with 39 Communists killed and 12 government troops wounded near Pleiku and Binh Dinh. Cambodian forces recaptured Banam, the Mekong port, the first time since Khmer Rouge offensives began.
